Pens win, Snack isn't Whammy...

Well, despite Snack's best effort to jinx the hell out of our boys, the Pens held on to beat the Isles 3-2 last night at Mellon Arena...

It was a hard fought game, with the game winner coming in the second from the man, the myth, the legend, Big Georges Laraque...He once again played a helluva game, as did all of our third and fourth liners, finally digging in the asses of our opponents...It was nice to see a good all around effort from the boys, and hopefully we can keep this going....

Notes from the game: First off, I'd like to thank Pink Panties, the pretty girl in front of me who refused to pull her pants up no matter how much she was swearing and screaming at the ice...She was cussing as much as the four drunks in front of her, each holding 2 beers at a time and chugging their faces off...Gotta love them Pens fans...Speaking of chugging their faces off, our mayor-elect, Luke Ravenstahl was seated one section over from us...I know what you're thinking, and no, he wasn't drunk as hell, but the crew of large, no-necked bastards he was with sure looked like they had a couple...Not hammered drunk, but drunk enough...I sure hope they were his cumps from the North Side and not the cops gettin paid to protect him...If that's the case, this guy is an f-ing retard...And it's because of those reasons and more that I will be coming up with a new Top 5 list this weekend, involving my evening at the Pens game...Stay tuned boys and girls...

So who wants to get drunk and go to a Pens game?

Diego's Afternoon Ramblings...

Big Ben was honored as AFC Player of the Week, keep up the good work big guy...

There is a nice intervew with Jamie Dixon in USA Today, its about time he started to get some national props; all this man does is put together winning teams every year since he's taken over for Ben Howland.

Also, Pitt looks to remain undefeated tonight at home against some jabronis I've never heard of.

The ongoing soap opera between Stephon Marbury and Isiah Thomas continues. Marbury was fined 1/110 of his salary for failing to show up for a game in Phoenix, that totals to a cost of $118,000.00 to prove his point to Isiah.

I guess Brady Quinn used some of that signing bonus to buy a sweet new digital camera because pics of this dude have been surfacing all over the blogs this week: we've got Deadspin where he is posing as a gay giggilo or one of the village people not too sure which...

Is he auditioning for brokeback 2?

We've also got Modesi's House where he is getting up close and personal with Rock of Love star and supposed Steeler fan Brett Michaels...

Anybody need tickets to the gun show?

And finally With Leather provides us with a funny look-a-like comparison of our favorite QB to hate on, be sure to click this because this one is a classic.

Nerd alert! A teen in Amsterdam was arrested for stealing virtual furnature from an online social networking site. Until lata...

Good Morning Boys and Girls...

Here go some posts to keep you occupied until Diego comes thru with links...I'll try and get them up before the game tonight, and look for a big update on the game tomorrow morning (unless they put in another sub par effort at which point they'll be ignored again).

Speaking of the Pens, Kris Letang is back with the team after spending some time in the minors...He's a good player, but he supposedly has questions about his work ethic and heart, which is not a good thing on a team that apparently is pull of players like that...

In other news, Santas in Sydney cannot say "ho ho ho" anymore, because it's slang for prostitute in America...You've got to be kidding me...Now they have to say "ha ha ha", which basically means there's going to be a jolly fat man laughing at your kids in Australia...I don't know about all of you, but this PC BS gotta go...

In showbiz news, David Letterman is paying his entire staff through at least the end of the year because of the writers' strike...All the money is coming out of his own pocket, which is pretty cool, considering I've always been a Leno fan and thought Letterman was a d-bag...

Atta boy, Big D...

And finally, here's a link to MLB Trade Rumors, a great site that discusses all of the potential trades and goings on in MLB...The spot I linked is the Pirate's page, and it has some interesting potential trades and mentions that the Bucs may be shopping some people we didn't think they would...

Until lata....

Snack and Diego's Links...

Here go some quick links for all of you to enjoy...also, and I know this is short notice, but if any of you can come up with a sign that your boy Snack should bring to see the Pens tomorrow night let me know by emailing pierogisnat@gmail.com ....Any help would be appreciated...

MJ got screwed in his divorce settlement, losing $168 million to his ex...Good Lord, Mike, you beter watch that gambling addiction or your bald ass could be broke as hell very soon...

She take the rest of those shorts too?

In other big news, Ricky Williams is back in the NFL according to ESPN...Glad to see you gave up the pot to give your career another shot...Who knows, Ricky, if you play like you used to you'll earn enough money to buy an entire weed field in Mexico or Canada or wherever it is rich folk like you like to get their buds from...He prolly got it from his trainer in the CFL...

Puff, puff, give...

In baseball news, A-Rod is talking with the Yanks, however he is doing so without Scott Boras...So what, the Steinbrenners are making him an offer he can't refuse? This isn't the Godfather, Hal, let the man bring his agent in...It's his right, and you're trying to screw him into signing a lower then value contract because you're pissy about losing the money the Rangers still owe you...If A-Rod signs a contract with the Yankees, I will lose what little respect I had for him, and I will lose all faith in his ability to ever be anything other then a lackey who can't win a thing because he's too scared to do what HE wants, and not what some agent or owner wants...Show some balls brah!

In Steelers news, Ryan Clark and Jerame Tuman have been place on IR, ending their seasons. We signed Starvin' Marvin Phillips from the practice squad, with one more signing to come...Maybe someone who can help us with special teams?

And finally, below is a video of one of PNA's favorite fighters, Kimbo Slice, the large, bearded, bald guy who used to fight for $10,000 per fight, and was sponsored by a porn site of some form or another, absolutely eating this guy for dinner...I think the fight literally lasts like 20 seconds, but it's his most recent fight so check it out...

Until lata...

Update...

Well boys and girls, two quick updates for you...first off, we'll have some links up for you in a little bit, Diego just sent them to me so once I do the html they'll be up...

And second, your boy Snack is going to the Pens game on Thursday night, hopefully my intimidating presence will whip these jagoffs into shape...

Till lata...

Monday Morning Hangover...(Part 2)

Wow I feel better after getting all the Penguin’s griping done and over with, until Friday morning at least. So now I can move on to bigger and better things, our Pittsburgh Steelers. These AFC North games have been a pushover up until the Cleveland Browns walked into Heinz Field for our second match up with them of the year this Sunday. Diego was once again tailgating at Hienz field so my memory may not be all that great as I was pounded beer drinking throughout the day on Sunday.

My first reaction was wow there is a lot of shit colored jerseys and jackets spread through Gold lot 2 where I was getting my drink on. One guy even had the balls to wave around a 20 ft browns flag while attempting to heckle Steelers fans (we don’t play that in Pittsburgh, lets just say the flag ended up in the Alleghany). Yes indeed folks it was shaping up to be a good one this week. The game didn’t start off too well for the Lers, with them going three and out and the Browns scoring a touchdown on a play action pass on their first drive of the game. In fact, the whole first half wasn’t going to great for the Steelers as we were holding the Browns to third and longs, which they continued to convert thanks to good play by the offensive line and smart throws from QB Derek Anderson. The defense was getting pressure, but Anderson was doing a good job getting rid of the ball before taking a sack. Two more touchdown passes and two Skippy Reed field goal’s later, and the Lers were going into halftime down 21-6.

After some halftime cherry bomb shots, all my friends and me over at Calico Jack’s were ready to watch the Steelers comeback in the second half so we could go over and taunt the table full of Brownies fans. Thankfully the Lers gave us a chance to do just that with a strong 2nd half performance. Both the defense and offense played outstanding in the 2nd half, the special teams though… not so much. But 2 outta 3 ain’t bad right? Although special teams did almost cost us the game, Big Ben took it upon himself to make sure that the Steelers weren’t going to lose this game or their firm grip atop the lead of the AFC North.

Big Ben,you can’t say enough about the way he has been playing so far this season, it seems as if overcoming all those obstacles in 2007 really helped him become a better QB this season. He has stepped up his game in a big way, and he seemed to show shades of a John Elway Sunday as he was scrambling around the pocket, breaking away from sacks, running the ball down field, and leading the Steelers on a drive that ultimately led to victory. This was quite possibly the best game of Bens short career as he passed for 278 yards and 2 TD’s and ran for another 49 yards, including a HUGE 30 yards TD run, the longest of his career. Even Bill Parcels was singing the praise of Ben and the Steelers offense after this weekend’s performance. I say this amidst all the ramblings throughout the national media stating that Ben isn’t an elite QB in this league and that he isn’t even one of the top 5 players at his position, which is absolute rubbish.

The new face of the NFL...

All in all it was a solid effort other then the miscues on special teams. (as Snack addressed yesterday) The Steelers managed to squeak by with a 3 point win after Phil Dawson missed a game tying 52-yard field goal with no time left on the clock. It was big to get this win, not only to silence critics, but to keep a hold on the top spot in the AFC North, and also to keep the Brownies fans from having their bragging rights.

That's 8 in a row in case you morons can't count that high...

Now the Steelers are headed to a softer part of the schedule with the next three games coming against teams with a combined record of 4 wins and 23 loses, if we keep playing the way we did Sunday there should be no problem at all.

Monday Morning Hangover...(Part 1)

Diego here, and its good to be back after the long weekend break, I’m here to recap this weekends sports action n’at. This weekend was shaping up to pretty good with Pitt hoops tipping off, Penguins playing, and the Steelers matching up with their most hated rivals, the Browns.

I’ll start out with the Penguins who, to say the least, have been struggling recently. They went into the game against the Flyers in Philly on Saturday loosing 4 out of the last 5 games they have played. Regrettably the Pens luck didn’t change in this game and we were once again outplayed and beaten by a score of 5-2. The Flyers were led to victory by Kimmo Timonen, who had 4 points, coming on a goal and three assists, against goalie Marc Andre Fleury on Saturday night. The Flyers utilized four power play opportunities to capitalize and score goals, while badly out shooting the Penguins throughout the night.

The Pens once again struggled to score goals even against Flyers goalie Martin Biron, who previously that week, let up 4 goals on 15 shots against the Devils. The Pens got goals from Geno Malkin and Sergei Gonchar, but it wasn’t enough against a greatly improved Philly team. Also, the Flower once again struggled letting up 4 goals, last one was an empty netter, and has still done nothing all year to prove he deserves to be this team’s starting goaltender on a day to day basis. Does anybody else remember the good ole days when we kicked the Flyers ass every time we played? Seems like such a long long time ago.

Monday night the Pens had another game with the only team in the Atlantic division that had fewer points then they did, the New Jersey Devils. Also Monday the Penguins would be playing back at home at the Mellon Arena, and Danny Saborin would be getting the start in goal. The Pens needed a win tonight; worse than Geno Malkin needs a haircut, worse than the Talbot needs a shave, you get my point. Alas, tonight would not be the night as the Devils, seemingly pissed off from the butt kicking they received at home last Monday came to Igloo ready to play.

The Pens got goals from Crosby and Gino, but came up short when Patrick Elias scored the game winner late in the 3rd period. Of course Elias hadn’t scored in a dozen previous games, but he managed to put the game winner past Saborin after an errant pass from Big Georges. The Devils started backup goalie Kevin Weekes who only had to make 23 saves in order to get his second win of the season.

The Pens needs to do something to give this team some sort of spark because the way they are playing now is just unacceptable. With the loss to the Devils last night, we fall to last place in the division and are badly in need of some points. As far as I am concerned there are several factors contributing to the slump we are going through. First of all someone else on this team needs to step up and score some freaking goals. We expect players like Malkin and Crosby to score, and they have been, but where is the production from the rest of the team? We might as well put Staal on a milk carton because the Jordan Staal I know has been M.I.A. since the playoffs last year. Christenson seemed to have some extra pep in his step lately, but this still has translated into any scoring production. Therrien has been mixing up lines all year to try to find that perfect combination, but nothing seems to be clicking as of yet. And why in the H does he continue to play oldballs Recchi and Roberts as the two have been struggling mightily as of late, why not give the young guys like Colby Armstrong a chance to play more then once every two weeks.

Come on Therrien, show this pale SOB some love...

In order for the Pens to start competing with teams they are going to need to produce more quality scoring chances and also execute on the power play more frequently. The addition of Ryan Whitney back on the power play can help with the latter problem, but the team also needs to address the issue of shot production. I have been frustrated as of late watching the Penguins continually attempt to set up the perfect pass opportunity instead of shooting the puck. Maybe if we were shooting the puck more we could take leads in games instead of continuously playing catch up as we have been doing as of late in the last couple of weeks. And Big Snack has done enough bitching about the goalies for the both of us so I won’t touch that one. One thing is for sure; if the Pens don’t step their game up we are in for a long season. Personally I blame Steigerwald and Errey as their horrible announcing and asinine comments make Pens broadcasts all that much worse.

Where's your partner, jagoff?

Until lata....

Pens news...

Well guys, I've decided I'm not even going to put up a link to the results from last night's loss to the Devils...When the Pens play hard and deserve having me write about them, I will, but until then they can forget it..I wouldn't mind it so much if they were a bad team but they're not, which leads me to believe this is a lack of effort, not a lack of talent. I think with the exception of Sid, Malkin and Malone, and obviously a few others scattered about, this team is a bunch of fat headed tools who read WAAAAAYYYYY too much into their own hype.

And the goaltending...holy hell the goaltending...We need someone new, someone who isn't rattled when things go wrong...I know, Marc's only 21 or 22, but the SOB has been in the league for over 3 seasons...If he's still getting shook up now, I have no reason to believe he will ever be the franchise type goalie we envisioned...the next Marty Brodeur my fat ass...And for Danny, who played last night, I guess he's a serviceable back up, but as good as his glove is, he sometimes has Fluerian tendencies to let in soft goals at horrible times....

Finally, does anyone other then me think that Therrien may need to go? I don't think his style of coaching meshes very well with this team, and my man Ray Shero may have known something when he only gave him a 1 year extension...It's quite possible that all of these guys have heard his song and dance before and just aren't buying it...Don't forget that most of these kids played for him in the minors, and coaches can get muted out if the players don't wanna hear what they're saying...

These guys need to pull their collective heads out of their butts and get this ship righted very quickly, or else we're all going to be pissing and moaning about what a waste of a year this was for the Pens...

Until Diego's links lata on...

Steelers win, so does Pitt...

As your boy Snack was enjoying the game in his penthouse loft, he realized something...Cleveland is still Cleveland and will always find a way to lose to us, and they'll probably do it in heartbreaking fashion, as was the case yesterday, when the Steelers held on to win 31-28.

Who does Number 2 work for?...Oh yeah, Cleveland.

The Steelers looked good in every aspect of the game except special teams...They were special alright, short bus special that is...Even the veterans said they'd play on special teams. I'm guessing it's because they're the ones who have deal with all the bad field position so they might as well do something about it...I for one am excited about it: I love seeing Keisel running down the field full bore with Silverback right beside him...They would have eaten Cribbs' lunch and made him pay the check...

In basketball news, Pitt is 3-0 following a 69-58 victory over St. Louis last night at The Pete...Word around town is that All-Everything center DeJuan Blair is the real deal, and Rick Majerus, coach at St. Louis, said he'd take this Pitt team over G-Town any day...And we all thought this was a "rebuilding" year at Pitt...I guess it's nice when a rebuilding year still has you ranked in the top 25...

This mofo is a beast...

Diego is off today so look for his Monday Morning Hangover tomorrow, and I'll try and put some posts up for yinz lata...My head is still banging from that Erie Brewing Company beer last night..Man that stuff will kick you in the nuts...

Until lata...

Pens lose, Pitt wins...Again

Well boys and girls, once again our Pens fell again to the Flyers, 5-2. It was another sloppy performance all around, with us giving up four power play goals...Check out the article, they cut up on Fluery too, and boy o boy does this prick deserve it...And to think, Ray Shero said he's not getting rid of anyone. I understand him saying this to try and get everyone fired up and show his confidence in them, but he's gotta be kidding me...We suck right now, and if something doesn't change soon, we'll be on the outside looking in at playoff time...

Better get your shit together boys...

In better news, our Pitt Panthers are 2-0 with a a victory over North Carolina A&T. Sam Young has led the Panthers in scoring both games, and their new high flying fast break style seems to be working alright...Hey, at least they didn't lose Kentucky or Michigan St. or Ohio St. style...HAHAHA

Take it to the rack son

Diego and I will be taking in the game from some cobination of Hienz Field and the bars, so look for our Steeler update in the morning...

GO STEELERS!!!!
