Well boys and girls, today starts NHL free agency, and the Pens have already signed someone - no, not Marian Hossa or Brooks Orpik, but the one, the only, Pascal Dupuis (or as I like to pronounce it, DUPUUUEEEEE).
He almost looks like a young Mark Recchi...
The story also says we're close to a deal for Malkin that will be based on the same contract figures as Crosby's, which is $8.7 million per year for five years.
Stick with PNA as I wiill be providing updates on our signings and other major deals as the day goes on...
UPDATE - Mark Eaton has also resigned, and in the deal for Geno is in fact true. Here's a curevball I bet you didn't see though; rumor has it we have a deal on the table for Jaromir Jagr.
I'll keep you posted...
And dont forget, tonite I'll be at the River City Pour House for my next crack at being an on air personality on ESPN. Come on out or email them and tell em' how great I am!
Since the Washington Capitals decided to crap themselves and lose game 7 of their series with the Flyers last night, the Pens now play the New York hockey Rangers in Round 2 of the Eastern Conference playoffs starting Friday night at 7PM at the Igloo.
I am personally kinda glad we get to play these jagoffs - hopefully Sid the Kid and Geno will show the Jagr-bomb who the real deal is in these playoffs, and send these whiny women (I'm talkin' bout you Avery - email me at Pierogiesnat@gmail.com and I'll call you a woman to your face) back to NY with their tails' between their legs. And don't even get me started on the rest of the clowns on that squad. As far as I'm concerned, they can all climb the Empire State Building and take a flying leap off...
Marc Fluery needs to continue his lights out play and Hal "I have a big stick" Gill needs to keep pummeling people or we could be in some serious trouble. I mean honestly, NY is prolly the hardest team left for us in the East - Philly would be a toss up due to our rivalry (but obviously we'd beat them silly) and I think we can beat Montreal somewhat handily. They're a good squad but I don't think they match up well with the Pens in a playoff series; we're more talented, bigger and tougher then they are, which is not a good way to start the series.
Although, I think we're more talented, bigger and tougher then everyone left in the East, so I guess everyone we play is behind the 8-ball from the get go...
As far as all the other Pittsburgh sports, the Buccos won yesterday (they still stink) and the Steelers draft 23rd on Sunday. The draft starts at 3 PM, so my guess is we'll pick around 6ish.
And make sure you check in with PNA during the draft - as of now (subject to change because we suck), we plan on live blogging the first two rounds of the draft. I know, it's a crazy idea, but with enough beer, anything's possible...
The Pens won last night against the hated (and horrible) Islanders, 3-1. Ruutu netted three points, on a goal and two assists, which was his highest offensive output ever in a single game.
Everyone was psyched to see Crosby and Hossa play together, but Hossa kept getting knocked out of the game, with the final blow to him being a cheap shot from behind in the beginning of the third, which sent him off the ice for the final time. He also got sent off by a low hipcheck which took out his already ailing right knee, but he returned. No timetable has been released for him yet, and neither has an injury - let's hope this is just playoff manuvering (like the Steelers do when the flat out lie on the injury report), and not us covering up something serious.
Crosby and Hossa were both shut out of the scoring.
There was also the addition of the new look power play, which had Sid the Kid running the point with Gonchar, and Malkin, Hossa and Malone. The potential from this PP is ridiculous - three of the best scorers in the league, with one of, if not the highest scoring defensmen and a power forward on the cusp of 30 goals is perhaps the most talent EVER assembled on a line.
There will be more on this subject to come as Diego thinks the old PP of Malone, Malkin, Sykora, Gonchar and Whitney is better. I told him to lay off the crack rocks but apparently he didn't listen, so look for our conflicting views to be rather evident throughout the rest of the season and playoffs...
But back to Ruutu; Georges Laraque and him were absolutely handling business last night. On Geno Malkin's opener, Big Georges leveled some poor bastard in front of the net, allowing Geno's shot to squeek past. Rutuu then scored the second goal on a wrap around, where he flew up the boards and swooped behind the net so quickly that he beat not only the goalie but all the defenders as well to the net. And finally, Ruutu set up the final goal by shuffling a sweet saucer pass to Big Georges, who then flipped it in and did his patented "jump into the glass move" that he makes when he scores. The crazy SOB almost squashed some poor Isle against the glass during his celebration.
So congrats to Big Georges and Ruutu - keep it up men, we need ya to play like this in the playoffs.
In their honor, I'm going to post a couple of clips of what these two gentlemen are more known for...
Well boys and girls, it was quite a weekend of sports here in the Burgh. Pitt won the Big East tourney on Saturday, and followed it up by being announced as a 4 seed in the NCAA tourney, matching up against Oral Roberts in Denver.
It's been a very impressive run for our Panthers - no one predicted they'd win the Big East Title, let alone be named a number 4 seed. Levance Fields has really stepped his game up, as has Biggs (I know I'm having trouble believing it too) and of course, the man, the myth, the piano-playing legend, Sam Young.
Young was the player of the tournament, absolutely shredding everyone that got in his way. Him and Levance are the main reasons we've been playing well, bringing that veteran intensity (at least Fields) that we need.
Super-frosh Dejuan Blair has played OK, but has been in foul trouble, much like he has been a lot of the season. When he's on the court, he's a hoss - but playing 9 minutes like he did in the semi-finals isn't gonna work in the Big Show.
And a little side note about Pitt that I thought yinz would be interested in - Bob "The General" Knight (and if you don't know who this is get off my site, now) predicted Pitt as the national champs last night on ESPN. He loves our mental toughness, which is something sweet coming from the man who is so tough he's thrown chairs and/or basketballs at referees, choked a player, and probably (not 100 percent sure) killed a man.
And what can be said about the Pens? They've been on a two game tear, scoring 14 goals over the span. They won 7-1 yesterday over the hated Flyers.
Geno Malkin scored twice, as did Petr Sykora, and we looked like the team everyone has expected us to be all year. Marian Hossa also got his first score as a Penguin, launching a nifty wrister from the slot into the bottom corner off of a great screen (can't remember who it was, but I wanna say Malone since it's always f-ing Malone).
Fluery played well in net, and the defense played perhaps their best game of the year. And my man, monster Hal "the Gill-a-tine" Gill, played a strong defensive game AND got to rub someone's face in the ice without getting a penalty called on him. I just keep thinking about the playoffs when Gill will be on the backline and Gary "I'll Eat your Children Come Playoff Time" Roberts will be on the frontline. If that doesn't strike fear into those stupid Canadians (not the team, the entire country), I don't know what will...
Until lata, and I promise that updated mock will be up soon - lil bro is in town till after Easter, so there's been lots of running around to do and the such. And I think Diego may have a MMH for yinz, but knowing my lazy ass, it'll be up tomorrow...
The Penguins battled against an eastern conference team. the Washington Capitals, early on Sunday. Before the game even started, when the TV cameras where panning the crowd, I saw almost the same amount of Penguins fans as I did Capital fans - it was as if the game was to be played at home in Pittsburgh. The first period ended scoreless and it was looking as this game was going to be won by fighting hard for the puck down deep in the corners.
The second period started out much like the first period ended. After a hard hitting beginning to the period the Capitals took the lead when Brooks Laich scored a power play goal. Not more than Ninety seconds later did Geno Malkin send a beautiful pass to Petr Sykora, who fanned on it but still scored to tie the game at one. Ten minutes later Geno had another great pass to Sid "the Kid" Crosby who scored with a low line wrist shot. It looked as if the Penguins would enter the locker room with a one goal lead, but they were penalty plagued and allowed the Caps' Alexander Semin to score another power play goal with only seconds left in the period.

First goal since he returned...
At the beginning of the 3rd period both teams seem to have a little more jump in their skate, and both teams had great goal scoring chances in the gridlocked game. With less than thirty seconds left to go, it looked to me that both teams would get at least one point and the game would go to overtime. Sid the Kid threw the puck to the front of the net hoping that something would happen……. And something did! Trying to clear the puck the Capitals' Nick Backstom ended up putting it into the back of his own net, which gave the Penguins a one goal lead with seconds left. With an empty net Geno showed how unselfish he really was by taking another assist on the night and handing the game ending goal to J Staal.
PS - This was our boy Danny "Tteado" Hahn's recap of the game. Not too shabby, me thinks. So thanks buddy.
Sid the Kid will be back in action for your Pittsburgh Penguins tonight in Tampa Bay. It’s been too long - we miss ya Sid. Just for the love of god, be careful out there...
WV made up for being embarrassed in this years football version of the Backyard Brawl by scraping up Pitt last night 76-62. Does this team even deserve to play in the NCAA tournament? I know losing Mike Cook shouldn’t hurt this bad.
It’s a sad day for John Madden (and the state of Wisconsin) as the player whom they love, Brett Favre, retired today after 17 long seasons in Green Bay. How much you wanna bet the gray bush doesn't stay retired?
The Pens won 5-4 over the hated Habs of Montreal last evening in the gizzly white north of Canada. Geno had 3 points, and Bugsy Malone and Sergei Gonchar each netted one in front of the sellout crowd.
(pic from nationalpost.com)
Bugsy on the rampage...
It was good to see us beat a good team in Montreal, and even better that we did it with Danny Boy in net. I think when Sid gets back this team is going to be an absolute juggarnaut. They're looking good just at the right time, and hopefully, the addition of a scoring winger (they haven't made a trade yet but certainly could use one) can put them over the top - let's face it, if we have home ice advantage throughout the playoffs, it will be a huge edge because we play excellently at home.
Make sure you check Mondesi's House early next week as me and Diego's newest top 10 list hits on the Pens trade needs...
I didn't see much of the Pitt game as the Pens were nunmber one on my list, but as I (regrettably) kinda expected, they lost to ND. Apparently ND went on a three point rampage, which is to be expected, and those Irish bastards kept their 34 game home winning streak in tact.
Duquesne also got killed last night. Xavier (number 10 in the country) wiped the court with them, but hey, they're still having one helluva season.
And finally, since we've never mentioned them, I figured it's time for us to give some props to Robert Morris, who won their tenth in a row yesterday. Good job boys, keep making PGH proud...
The Pens beat the Sabres 4-1 tonight in Buffalo. It was another outstanding performance from Ty "Who?" Conklin, and Geno Malkin scored again. He's really picked it up since Sid went down, and continues to be near the league lead in points (I hate you Ovechkin).
The hihghlight of the game, however, was Jarkko Ruutu scoring his first goal in 60 games. After being sent off with a minor penalty, Ruutu sprinted out of the box and caught a long pass from Ryan Malone for a breakaway, and finished it off by flipping into the top corner. It was a phenominal play and real game changer.
Until then, it was Buffalo who was the aggressor - they fired 17 shots at Conklin in the first and he turned them all aside. They were poking and provoking our boys, and we played right into it, giving them the first three powerplay opportunities of the game. Luckily for us, those morons from the grizzly north couldn't find the back of the net with a team of Navy SEALS and a flashlight...
(Pic from answers.com)
Buffalo is in Canada right?
Big Snack's three stars for the game have to be Geno as the third, Ruutu as the second, and Conklin as the first.
We're still right in the thick of things as far as the playoffs go, but the margin for error gets smaller every day - I for one am as happy as a fat kid (Snack) in a candy store that Sid and Gary will be back soon...
And sorry for not posting as much as usual last week - it was a busy week for us, but we'll be back to our normal style this week...
First off, the Pens won yesterday 4-3 over the hated Philly Flyers...Malkin kept up his incredibly play, scoring a goal and adding three assists, and Ty Conklin was OK in net.
We now have a grip on second place in the Eastern Conference, and an even stronger grip on first in the Atlantic Division...The question, as reader benny benack's ghost pointed out, is what do you do when all these vets such as Adam Hall, Gary Roberts and Sid the Kid come back? Well Snack got you covered - here's how I think the lines should play out (barring any trades) when they playoffs begin...(in no particular order)
Forwards
Malkin - Malone - Sykora
Crosby - Armstrong - Staal
Talbot - Ruutu - Laraque
Hall - Roberts - Taffe
Reserves - Smith, Kennedy
Defense
Whitney - Sydor
Gonchar - Scuderi
Letang - Orpik
In NFL news, my boy Tec over at Pittsburgh Sports and Mini Ponies started a petition calling for all Patriots fans to henceforth be referred to as "nerd-ass idiot dork-jerks" because of their petition claiming the Patriots were robbed of some time or some crap. I read the stories about it and it all seems like whining to me (much like Seattle's "playing the refs" comments after XL), but I like the idea of calling the Patriots names, so I figured I'd let yinz all sign it...
Until lata...
PS - Check out Mondesi's House for our newest top 10 list...we'll have it posted here in a day or two, but we know how yinz can't wait for them, so we figured we'd let you know...
The Pens won 4-2 this afternoon at Mellon Arena against the Kings. Malkin had two goals and an assist, and was absolutely dominant up and down the ice.
We played another great game without about half of our lineup, and Danny Sabourin played well in his first start in a while. This propelled us to first place in the Atlantic and second overall in the Eastern Conference.
Next up for the Pens is a Sunday afternoon matchup with the hated Flyers. The puck drops at 1 PM...
The other reason I'm glad is one of my favorites, NASCAR, is up and running. Saturday night was the first race, the Budweiser Shootout, and my boy Dale Jr. won in a close race with Jimmie Johnson, Smoke Stewart and Jeff Gordon. It was his first race with new team Hendrick Motorsports and new teammates Gordon, Johnson and Casey Mears, and if Saturday was any indication, it's gonna be a helluva year for the #88 car...
Junior is my favorite racer, so you'll be reading about his exploits throughout the NASCAR season. Who knows, maybe it'll turn some of yinz into race fans...
OK, I'm not even going to post a link up to last night's debacle, that's how hurt I am by it. The Pens lost 3-0 to the Lightning and in case you haven't seen the TV yet or live under a bridge, Sid the Kid now has a dreaded "high ankle sprain" from sliding into the boards feet-first, and will be sidelined indefinitely. He'll be re-evaluated early next week, but early prognosi from all the amateur doctors out there has him down for at least 6 weeks. You gotta learn to protect them legs man, sliding into the boards at full speed is never a good idea...
The Pens now have to rely on their "secondary" players like Sykora, Geno, Malone, Colby and the like to score. This could actually work out, making the team stronger and less dependant on Crosby...Of course, this could be the downfall of the season and we could miss the playoffs because of this crap...Only time will tell, but let's hope it's more of the former and less of the latter...
In much, much better news, last night was our first official PNA street sighting of a Steeler.
As Diego and Snack pounded cheap booze at Rumshakers to celebrate White Marcus and Shiver me Timbers' bdays, Snack noticed a rather large SOB walk through the door. He says, "Dude, I think that's Matt Spaeth"....Diego checks it out, and he agrees. So we commence to ask every one of our friends in attendence, and half of them (mostly the girls) said "who the hell is Matt Spaeth" and the guys all said they wouldn't know Spaeth if he kicked them in the face.
So, being a little "under the weather", neither one of us wanted to go up an make an ass out of ourselves in front of someone who may or may not be a Steeler...So as he makes his break for the door, I yell out "Spaeth, you're the shit"...horrible line, I know, but I was drunk, so get off me. Anyway, he looks over, give the "you're the man" point, and walks out with his crew of large men and beautiful blondes...
It looked like my man was handlin' his booze well, and his ladies were definitely top-notch...my only question is, if you're making about a million dollars a year, why, in the good name of God, would you go to Rumshakers. I mean honestly, there's classier places in Greenfield. I guess his ladies wanted to boogie down a little or something, but thankfully, for his sake, he was only there for like 30-45 minutes at most.
Until after the Pens game tonight, when hopefully we start another winning streak...
PS - we did look at a pic of Spaeth when we got back to the penthouse, and it was definitely him. We wanted to make sure it wasn't another look-alike dude, but considering this dude is 4 inches taller then Snack (who's 6'3-6'4 himself) it kinda confirms it.
I'll start with the Pitt game, and man, what a game it was. Georgetown looked like they expected to roll right over us, but Dejuan Blair and Keith Benjamin would have none of it. Ronnie Ramon was nailing threes left and right, and we out muscled the "bigger, badder" Hoyas on the offensive boards, leaving John Thompson III in fits. And we won without Sam Young playing well, as he only scored 9 points, his first game under double digits this season.
To be honest, I thought Pitt may have some trouble in this game. G-Town was 4-1 against Pitt under J.T. III, and they are absolutely huge height-wise, so I figured they could outrebound us and just own the paint. Which they kinda did, but what we lacked on the defensive boards we picked up on the offensive ones, and our lack of height was made up for with hustle and athleticism.
It was a big win for the guys, and it finally proves they can live without Fields and Cook, at least for the time being. Kudos to Coach Dixon for not letting the guys feel sorry for themselves...Hail to Pitt!!!
As for our Pens, the only word to describe their recent run is WOW...Geno Malkin netted his second hat trick in as many weeks (hmmmm...didn't Snack mention he could go on a hat trick tear now that he scored his first one two weeks ago? Yea, he did.). I guess somebody was a little pissed they didn't make the All-Star game...(Come on, how can the NHL throw Marc Savard into the game and not Malkin? They should be ashamed of themselves, Malkin's 13th in total points in the league and 11th in scoring, and they guy who went instead of him, Savard, is 21st in points and only has 11 goals...)
Sid the Kid had two assists and Sergei Gonchar scored the other goal for the Pens, who have not lost a game in regulation (insert Les Miles joke here) since before Christmas. Everyone has been on top of their game, and Big Georges and Ryan Malone have been "handling business" with the best of them...Hell, even little Kris Letang is leveling people...
Ty "Who?" Conklin stopped a career high 43 saves, continuing his excellent goaltending. This guy is playing great, and is the major reason for us being in the midst of a 10-0-1 run...The Ty Train is rollin', and all we can do is hop on and go for the ride...
One more little note to pass on, the Steelers are planning that entertainment complex on the North Shore again...If it didn't work last time, I doubt it will work this time, but you never know...
Hey guys, I just wanted to let you all know the Pens won 3-0 against the Panthers behind strong goaltending from Ty Conklin.
Conklin stopped 35 Panther shots to record his second shutout of the season, and has won his sixth in a row. During that run, he's only allowed 8 goals. Absolutely amazing goaltending cheif.
Geno Malkin, Sid the Kid and TK48 (Tyler Kennedy...I will make this nickname stick) all scored for the Pens, and Crosby and Malkin each added an assist. That also makes it back to back games that Geno and TK48 scored goals in, which is another very good sign for the boys.
The last thing I noticed about the game was the Pens only had one penalty the entire game, which is great to see. I'm going to take it as a sign of us maturing, but I can see some people saying they just got lucky enough not to be caught. I'll let you make the decision for yourselves...
Sorry for the quick post, as I am about to sit down and watch the Steelers beat the ever living snot out of the Jag(off)s...GO STEELERS!
Until lata...
PS - We have some very exciting news about PNA's future that we can't discuss yet, but believe me when I say it will make us bigger then Jesus (Sorry God)...More to come on that as we can release it...
Last night, our Penguinos beat the hated Toronto Maple Leafs 6-2 at Mellon Arena. Diego and I watched the entire game from my penthouse suite in Greenfield, and I gotta say, it was probably the best Pens game all season.
The game started out sluggish, with the Pens falling behind 1-0 after the first. I don't know if it was a hangover from the Winter Classic, but they kinda looked like crap. It was a good thing Ty Conklin (who ended up with 33 saves) was on his game, or we could have been in some deep, deep trouble.
Erik Cristensen tied it early in the second on a physical wrap around, which is good to see. He was a beast last night, hitting everything that moved, leveling a Maple Leaf behind the net, and just playing a physical, aggressive brand of hockey. Looks like he finally fiigured out how to be a skilled forward with a little grit. Let's hope he continues to play this way and that this wasn't a one game only situation.
Speaking of physical play, Jarkko Ruutu was the sole reasoon we won last night. A little more then halfway through the second, Ruutu decided to spur the Pens on by fighting notorious tough guy Darcy Tucker. What ensued was one of, if not the best fight I've seen in years, but why take my opinion, take a look for yourself...
This beatdown really fired the boys up, and from then on the game was theirs. Around the 15 minute mark of the second, Geno Malkin flipped one in off of a Sidney Crosby rebound to give the Pens a 2-1 lead. That's how the second would end scoring wise, but the third had some excitement in store.
With 17 minutes left in the third, Tyler Kennedy notched his seventh goal of the season on a rebound of his own shot. He fired a wrister at the goal, and then beat a defenseman to put his own rebound in the back of the net. Then Malkin lit the lamp again 37 seconds later on a sweet backhand flip over the goalie's shoulder, making the score 4-1 Pens. Finally, 11 seconds later, Petr Sykora scored his 12th of the season, ending the run at three goals in 48 seconds. What a way to start off the third boys, a nice four goal lead never hurt anybody.
Malkin made a play late in the third that only superstars make, and it reminded me of a young Jagr when he was with us. His combination of size, speed and skill make him a very, very dangerous man. Take a look at it and tell me this doesn't make you excited to be a Pens fan...
This was the first hat trick of Malkin's career, which I didn't know and kind of suprised me, considering his goal scoring prowess last season, but I guess they are kind of a rare. I'm assuming there will be many more in his career, and who knows, now that he got that monkey off his back, maybe another 1 or 2 this season.
The final was 6-2, with Jason Blake scoring both goals for the Leafs. Like I said, it was a helluva game, and finally, FINALLY we're looking like the team that people predicted would be in the Stanley Cup this season.
3 Stars
Third Star : Jarkko Ruuto
Second Star : Ty Conklin
First Star : Geno Malkin
Announcer Quote of the Night : After Sykora's goal made it three in 48 seconds, Bob Errey said "Are they really gonna leave him in?"...HAHAHA...That poor, poor soul from Toronto never saw that coming.
And since I know you're wondering, yes, they did leave him in...
Just a quick lil' note from Santa Snack to let yinz know our beloved Steelers are in the playoffs...Our early Christmas gift was Derrick Andersen pooping his pants in the final two minutes of the first half, throwing two picks that led to Cincy TD's...And, thankfully, the Bengals didn't lose their minds and give the game back to them damn Brownies in true Cincy style...
Congrats guys, let's see how far we can take this thing...I thing Coach Ditka said it best when he stated that we looked like the old Steelers when Dookie was running the ball...hopefully he don't break his leg like he did when he played for the Pack, or, as we like to call it, "Willie Parker" himself...I think Dookie may have been looking to "Charlie Batch" it for a few years and collect a payday without doing nothing, but now his nuts are in the vice...Step it up Dookie...
Pens are looking good for the time being, leading 3-1...Scary Gary and Big Georges both had goals along with Geno Malkin...I'll post something about it in my Happy Holidays post tomorrow...
Well, looks like the Pens are still rolling, even after five days off...Last night, they beat the Stars 4-1 at the Igloo...
They have looked good for three games in a row, and dare I say it, may be on a hot streak...The fourth line has really picked it up, with Big Georges looking like the player we traded for and Tyler Kennedy providing hustle and an offensive spark...of course, I call these guys fourth liners but God only knows where they will end up on any given night, since Coach Therrien changes his lines every other shift...
And, as with any good winning streak, the big time players have been performing very well, with Sid the Kid scoring twice last night and Geno Malkin adding another...These two, along with Marc the Flower (who has looked good now two games in a row), are the cornerstones of this team, and they must perform well if we have any hope of taking home the Cup this season...
And finally, a random note from the sports page today...
Four Steeler players were subpoenaed in the Hines Ward bar case...Ike Taylor, Big Hamp, Deshea, and Nate Washington all got the nod...I don't understand what the hell these four could have to do with anything, so basically I think some jackass lawyer is trying to get his name in the news...Unless, of course, the charges are eating the $350k thats missing...Then Big Hamp may be someone to look at...
The Pens won 4-2 tonight against the Wild in Minnesota, showing they put that overtime loss to the Habs behind them.
The first period of tonight's game was some of the most boring hockey I've ever seen. The scoring chances were few and far between, and it seemed as if they were just feeling each other out...Thankfully, the second period brought some excitment.
The scoring started at 3:30 of the second when Geno Malkin wrapped one under goalie Josh Harding for a 1-0 Pens lead. Sidney Crosby made a charge to the net but lost the puck behind the net, where Malkin took the puck. The Wild followed it up with a goal at 6:14 by Veilleux to tie it up at 1..The original shot hit the post and Danny Boy was a lil too slow finding the puck and made a lunging effort to save it. But 15 seconds later Malkin tickled the twine again, finding a rebound and slamming it home. Crosby and Malone had the assists on both of Malkin's goals.
In the third, things started off with an Adam Hall vs. Jake Sheppard fight that looked more like a slow dance. That punk Sheppard high-sticked Hall and then leveled him in the neutral zone...My guess is Hall said enough with this crap, I'm gonna teach this kid a lesson, but Sheppard wouldn't let go of his arms...Grow some nuts Sheppard.
Danny Boy let in a stuffer of a shot with a little more then 13 minutes left to tie the game at 2. The puck was just sitting in the blue ice and he shoved it in the goal. Peter Sykora gave the Pens the lead at 10:05 of the third on the power play with a wrister from the middle that found it's way behind Harding. Crosby got the assist on that one too, along with Sergei Gonchar.
The Pens gained a two goal advantage when Crosby scored on a break away at 14:29 and in doing so shut the door on the Wild. It was another good showing by Danny Boy in goal and Sid the Kid ended up getting four points on four goals, netting one and gettng three assists.
This is just the kind of convincing win I was talking about us needing earlier, however the Snackster was wrong about Fluery getting another shot. Hopefully this send us on the road to another 100 point season. We'll see...
GO PENS!
PS: Did anyone catch Brian Engblom's hair on Versus? Good Lord the man looks like he's wearing a hair piece made of cat fur. Either that or a small marsupial fell asleep on his melon, I'm not sure which. He'll be on the 10 worst haircuts in hockey list for f-ing sure.
